In some late breaking news, the University of Texas has arranged to acquire the manuscripts and correspondence of our fearless leader Jayne Anne at their Ransom Center in Austin. The center will be receiving drafts of Lark and Termite, Machine Dreams, Black Tickets, Shelter, and MotherKind. The reason the center expressed an interest in Jayne Anne’s writing in particular has to do with her interest in writing about war. Her most recent novel interweaves American rural life with the tensions of the Korean War and builds an almost otherworldly connection between the two. But in addition to her war writing, the rest of us at Rutgers-Newark will be interested in is the development of her language in all of those drafts–we’ll have to buy tickets to Texas.
